I don't feel strongly about a lot of things, especially because this quarantine has turned my brain to mush, and I'm currently incapable of thinking or feeling much of anything 🙃. Buuuut, I do feel strongly about my cat, about all cats really. I think it's really unfair that so many people just hate cats, essentially, because they're not dogs.
You know what I'm saying? Dogs just adore everything you do, you're their God, and they worship the very ground you walk on. They always need to be around you, and are always so excited to see you when you come home, which is sweet, don't get me wrong. That behavior, on top of dogs being cute, are the reason so many people love them. And that behavior, is the reason so many people don't like cats, because cats Don't. Do. That.
Cats don't constantly beg for your attention, don't come running for you when you've just come home, and aren't always up in your face trying to lick you all the time. If your cat does do these things, please trade cats with me, mine has a very limited cuddle time. Regardless of these points though, it doesn't mean cats are awful and don't like you, and deserve your hate. Cats can be mean, yes, but cats are strangely like humans with their personalities. If you're bothering them, they're going to let you know, and it's not their fault you're annoying them.
From my experience with cats, you have know how to love them. Every cat is different, unlike dogs that will take anything you give them. Some cats will take to you right away, some need time to adjust to you, some hate their bellies being rubbed, others hate their faces being touched. What can I say? Cats are picky and know what they want, you just have to adjust to them and figure out how to love them their way.
I once read, (and I can't tell you how accurate this actually is) that cats tend to have the same personality as their owner. So, maybe you don't actually hate the cat, you just hate the owner. Of course, I'm joking. But this idea made me laugh when I heard it, because it would explain why my cat is so damn sassy and stubborn. We have spent so much time arguing lately, especially with this lock-down, it's like she's my teenage daughter. The past five days, bless her, have been me trying to force her to cuddle, and me also trying to break her habit of knocking her water bowl around. Neither of these incidents can we agree on.
Although she gets mad at me, and does her own thing for most of the day, I know she loves me. Because at the end of the day, when I'm laying in bed, it's cuddle time for her. She will lay on my chest for the longest time, just soaking it all in, and she'll do the same thing the next morning, until she's sick of me and the day repeats.
But, that's what is special to me about cats. You have to earn their love and their trust. They don't just hand it out to everyone like dogs do. And once you've earned that first pet or that first cuddle from a cat, it's crazy. It's like a high to know that you've gained this animals affection, YOU'VE BEEN CHOSEN. Any moment my cat or any cat decides to give me love, is like the greatest moment of my life, because it means you're special. And I'm not the only one who feels that way. The very first time my cat decided to cuddle with my boyfriend, he threw his phone at me and told me to take pictures. It was precious and he was so excited!
All I'm saying is cats are cute too, dammit. And just because they don't love the same way a dog loves, doesn't mean they're hateful creatures. They're different than dogs, and can't be expected to behave the same way a dog does. So, don't be angry towards cats because you can't change the way you try to love them. It's so much more satisfying knowing that I earned my cat's love, and will always be pure joy when she decides it's time for cuddles.
