Week 12: Value the life of others, not just your own

“Stay home, stay alive and Save lives”!!! I am sure there are many people that understand exactly what I am talking about.  Recently, in the United States we have experienced an unprecedented pandemic called Covid-19.  I am sure many have been following the news and watching the daily press conferences from the President and the task force that has been developed to fight this pandemic. Right now in our daily lives we are being faced with events that have been heart wrenching and very sad to here of the lives lost to a virus that we are not able to properly treat yet. Today, I heard of a close friend of the family, that tested positive for Covid-19.  This family friend is in his mid-60’s and barely if not never leaves his home. He lives by himself and has not immediate family around. It was only 48 hours ago and he walked out of his home to go to the grocery store to grab his essential items. And today, I see on social media (Facebook) that he has Covid-19 and is now in the hospital on a ventilator.  Now was he a carrier? Was he not a carrier? I don’t know and I couldn’t say. But regardless if he would have just stayed home like they have been advising he would have probably been safe and hopefully will stay alive.  What bothers me so much right now with this, is that there is an order to stay home unless you need to go out and purchase essential items.  Just today, I had to go to the store for my mother, and as I was at the store, I watched a couple leave the store with a shopping cart of potting soil.  Now tell me how that is essential? How is that a necessity? I get it we are at home and are getting bored but it is that mind set of going out and purchasing items that are not essential that bothers me. Also, if we keep going out for non-essential items what will this do? Well, I can tell you this it will keep this pandemic spreading and adding on to the State order to go even into the Summer. Does anyone what this go to into the summer? Do you what this to go into the Summer? I know I don’t, I am over it already and more importantly I am devastated that the summer I was finally looking forward to, possibly not happening.  This was supposed to be a summer of fun filled concerts with my friends and family. Now I don’t know what to expect or if these events will still happen.  So, what can be done? Well it is very simple, stay home as much as possible. I know that it is hard to stay home especially on a nice day when the sun is out. But we need to stay home.  Like I told my best friend today, who decided to go and purchase paining supplies to redo his home.  The longer we stay home the sooner we will get this under control. The more we go out and put ourselves in harm’s way we are adding to the pandemic.  Also, the more we go out the longer this order will last. So, my advice to everyone is to stay home, stay safe and yes we will save lives.  I hope that I am not the only one that would like to get back to some normality of life.  I know that it will not be life like usual but at least it could be the life where we can go back out and enjoy all elements of entertainment.  Like I said, I am very passionate about this because of the close family friend that has Covid-19 and because I have family that has medical concerns that can not be exposed to this virus.  So my advice is to not be selfish. Don’t think about you when it comes to Covid-19 but think about everyone else that has, and who may have been infected with the virus.
